The "Thor" reached the disabled "Samskip Hoffell" on Jan 12
around 11 a.m. 160 nautical miles southwest of the Faroe Islands.
It took the crew of the "Thor" two hours to establish a towing connection.
Wave heights were about 6 meters and the wind was blowing from north-northeast direction with 25 knots.
Before, the crew of the container ship was supplied with 100 liters drinking water.
Both ships were now underway towards Reykjavik which was 400 nautical miles away with a speed of 5-6 knots.
The "Thor" was expected to be released by the Coast Guard vessel "HOFFELLIÐ" at the end of the week.

Container ship disabled in storm off Iceland
The "Samskip Hoffell" suffered engine trouble in the afternoon of
Jan 10, 2016, in the North Atlantic about 160 miles SW of the Faroe Islands.
The ship was en route from Rotterdam to Reykjavik. It was disabled and started to drift.
The "Helgafell", another Samskip-vessel, was nearby but unable to assist in winds of 25 m/s and up to ten meters wave height. The "Hoffjell" had no more energy, so there was no heating and no warm food on board for the crew of 13.
The Icelandic Coastguard dispatched the cutter "Thor" (IMO: 9426893) from Reykjavik around midday in order to tow the disabled ship to the port, ETA of the cutter at the casualtyin the midday hours of Jan 12.
