The "Merle" has been pulled away from its grounding site south
of Praia da Torreira in Murtosa by two tugs in the night of Mar 27.
Unsuitable sea conditions had made the first salvage attempt in the afternoon of Mar 26 impossible. The night operation went without a hitch. The salvage of the freighter was planned and executed by Portuguese technicians under the supervision of a Dutch Mammoet Salvage. The "Merle" wasg towed to the open sea and further to the Port of Lisbon where it was to be dismantled.
