Gestrand in het Kattegat

Empire stuck off Anholt

The "Empire" ran aground in the night of July 15, 2013,
at midnight near Anholt Østrev approximately four miles southeast
of the island in the Kattegat.

The Søværnets Operative Kommando of the Danish Fleet (SOK) sent
the patrol boat "Najaden" along with anti pollution
vessel "Mette Miljø" to monitor the situation. Divers were
surveying the hull regarding possible damage. The ship got stuck
at a water depth of about six metres but has a draught of 9.8 meters.

The container ship was en route from Gdynia to Bremerhaven.
It was hoped that the ship would get free in a couple of hours
by changing the weight distribution. The ship was outside the
shipping lanes and thus not disturbing other traffic.

Update

Dutch boxship "Empire" ran aground at about 04:45 LT July 15 13
in Kattegat east of Anholt island. No breaches reported,
vessel was expected to be refloated soon after grounding.

According to marinetraffic.com AIS track, vessel is already
refloated and anchored some 2.3 nautical miles off Anholt,
probably for underwater survey.
Vessel is en route from Gdynia to Bremerhaven.
