Man lost over board and found
On Oct 8, 2013, at 7:58 p.m. the "Thalassa" reported a man
over board off the Dutch coast during the Race of the Classics
which had started in Rotterdam.
On scene were winds of 6 Baufort and waves of 2.5 meters.
10 minutes later the Dolphin lifeboat of the KNRM station Petten
was launched from the beach and rushed to the position given
by the Dutch Coast Guard. Also the KNRM-boats of IJmuiden,
Wijk aan Zee, Egmond, Petten and Callantsoog as well as some
other ships, among them other participants of the race,
and the Nogepa helicopter from Bristow were on site.
The Zr.Ms "Snellius" served as on Scene Coordinator and directed
all units involved in the search. The crew of the navy ship traced
the man in the water who was then hoisted by the helicopter and taken
to Alkmaar from where he was transferred to a hospital by ambulance.
